Egypt has sent a new shipment of humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip in cooperation with Catholic Relief Services, continuing a series of relief efforts aimed at supporting civilians facing severe shortages in the territory.
The latest convoy was announced by Egypt’s Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade on Tuesday and includes around 65 tonnes of essential relief items such as mattresses, blankets, and plastic mats. Officials said the materials were requested directly by the organisation’s office in Gaza to meet urgent shelter needs.
The aid shipment was transported using 25 trucks after coordination with Egyptian authorities and international partners. It marks the 18th relief convoy sent as part of an ongoing humanitarian programme.
Egyptian officials said the effort reflects continued national support for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where living conditions have worsened due to ongoing conflict and restricted access to basic goods.
Supply Minister Sherif Farouk said the ministry is working through the General Committee for Foreign Assistance to organize and coordinate humanitarian convoys with international organizations. He added that Egypt will continue sending aid based on urgent needs identified on the ground.
Deputy head of the committee, Hossam El-Garhy, said coordination with Catholic Relief Services has been ongoing to assess needs and distribute relief supplies effectively inside Gaza.
He said earlier shipments included large quantities of essential shelter materials, such as tens of thousands of blankets and mattresses, along with tents and protective coverings intended to support displaced families.
According to officials, previous aid deliveries through the same programme have included tens of thousands of items designed to support families living in temporary shelters. These include tents capable of housing hundreds of thousands of people, along with hygiene supplies and basic household materials.
The ministry stated that the total amount of aid sent through this coordinated effort has now reached nearly 2,000 tonnes, delivered via multiple aircraft and hundreds of trucks over time.
Egypt has maintained a consistent role in facilitating humanitarian assistance to Gaza, working with international partners to ensure the delivery of supplies despite ongoing logistical challenges at border crossings.
Humanitarian organizations continue to stress the urgent need for food, shelter, and medical supplies in the territory as civilians face worsening conditions.
The latest convoy highlights the continued reliance on coordinated international aid operations to address shortages and support displaced populations.
Officials say future shipments will depend on evolving needs inside Gaza and ongoing coordination between Egyptian authorities and humanitarian agencies.
The effort remains part of a broader regional response aimed at easing humanitarian pressure and ensuring that essential supplies reach affected communities.
