Egypt and Mauritania have discussed plans to expand cooperation in healthcare, focusing on medical training, pharmaceutical production, preventive health services, and medical tourism.

The talks on Egypt Mauritania healthcare cooperation took place between Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and Mauritania’s Ambassador to Egypt, El Houssein Ould Sidi Abdallah, according to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population.

Officials said the meeting reviewed existing joint programs and explored new opportunities to strengthen collaboration in medical education, skills development, and healthcare consultancy services.

Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Mauritania’s health sector through knowledge sharing and technical assistance across multiple medical fields.

A key focus of the discussions was cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry. Egyptian officials proposed a visit for the Mauritanian delegation to the Arab Company for Drug Industries and Medical Appliances, known as ACDIMA, to better understand Egypt’s drug manufacturing systems and regulatory practices.

Both sides also explored ways to strengthen preventive healthcare programs. Egypt highlighted its experience in public health initiatives, disease prevention strategies, and healthcare system management, offering to share expertise with Mauritanian counterparts.

Medical tourism was another important topic during the meeting. The two countries discussed improving access for Mauritanian patients seeking treatment in Egyptian hospitals and specialized medical centers.

Officials also considered the possibility of sending Egyptian cardiologists to Mauritania to help improve specialized healthcare services and support medical capacity building.

Ambassador El Houssein Ould Sidi Abdallah expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support in the health sector. He praised Egypt’s progress in healthcare development and its role in assisting other African and Arab countries through training and expertise-sharing programs.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Health, Amr Kandil, along with advisers and international health relations directors from the ministry, as well as representatives from the Mauritanian Embassy in Cairo.

The discussions reflect Egypt’s broader strategy to expand healthcare partnerships across Africa and the Arab world. The country has been working to strengthen cooperation in medical training, pharmaceutical production, and healthcare services as part of its regional engagement efforts.

Officials said further steps are expected to follow as both countries work toward formalizing expanded cooperation in key health sectors.
