Egypt garment exports continued their strong upward trend in early 2026, supported by rising global demand and expanding trade links with major international markets.
The country’s ready-made garment sector recorded a 15 percent increase in exports during the first four months of 2026, reaching about $1.15 billion. This compares with $1.002 billion during the same period in 2025, according to data released by the Apparel Export Council of Egypt.
The performance reflects steady growth momentum in one of Egypt’s key industrial export sectors. Demand from the United States and Europe played a major role in driving the increase, alongside efforts to diversify export destinations.
April was the strongest month of the period, with exports rising 33 percent year-on-year to $287 million. In the same month of 2025, exports stood at $216 million, showing a sharp improvement in monthly performance.
The United States remained the largest single market for Egyptian garment exports. Shipments to the US increased by 13 percent to $429 million in the January to April period, compared with $379 million a year earlier.
The European Union also strengthened its position as a key destination. Exports to European markets rose 29 percent to $512 million, accounting for 44.6 percent of total garment exports.
This growth highlights Europe’s role as the largest regional bloc importing Egyptian garments, driven by strong demand from multiple countries and improved trade competitiveness.
Among individual markets, Türkiye ranked second globally for Egyptian garment imports, followed by Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands. The United Kingdom also recorded steady growth, while Italy saw a significant 95 percent surge in imports, reaching $33 million.
Apparel Export Council of Egypt said the sector is targeting annual export growth above 22 percent, despite global economic uncertainty and geopolitical pressures.
The council noted that Egypt’s garment industry is becoming more competitive due to improvements in product quality, delivery reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.
Officials said international brands are increasingly diversifying supply chains, which has created new opportunities for Egypt as a flexible and strategically located production hub.
The United States continues to act as a key driver of export growth, while European demand remains strong, particularly from Spain, Germany, and Italy.
Industry leaders also highlighted ongoing efforts to expand into new markets, including Africa, as part of a broader strategy to reduce dependency on traditional export destinations.
The sector is also benefiting from investment in textile production, spinning facilities, and ready-made garment factories. These expansions are expected to support higher output in the coming years.
Officials said maintaining growth will require continued support for exporters, improved access to financing, and deeper integration of local supply chains. Increasing the use of domestically produced raw materials is also seen as essential for boosting value-added manufacturing.
Projections from the industry suggest that garment exports could increase by more than $1 billion in 2026, reaching a total of around $4.4 billion. If achieved, this would mark the highest level in the history of Egypt’s ready-made garment sector.
The council attributed the strong performance to coordinated efforts between government bodies and industry stakeholders aimed at improving competitiveness and addressing structural challenges.
Looking ahead, the sector is expected to continue expanding over the next three years, supported by foreign investment and ongoing capacity growth among local manufacturers.
Industry leaders also emphasized modernization efforts, including improved production technology, higher-quality materials, and greater focus on sustainability practices.
Environmental considerations and circular economy models are increasingly being integrated into production strategies, reflecting global shifts toward more sustainable manufacturing.
Overall, Egypt garment exports are showing strong resilience and steady expansion, positioning the sector as a growing player in global apparel supply chains.
