A serious road accident west of Cairo has killed ten people and injured another 24 after a minibus collided with a heavy truck on a highway in Egypt. The crash occurred near 6th of October City in Giza province on Saturday, 31 October, according to the Egyptian Health Ministry. Emergency teams responded to the scene, while injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Health Ministry officials said that ten of the injured passengers were in critical condition. The figures were described as preliminary because medical teams were continuing to assess the situation. Authorities warned that the number of casualties could change as more information became available.
The collision happened near the intersection of the Middle Ring Road and Dabaa Road, an important route serving areas west of the Egyptian capital. The impact caused severe damage to the minibus and left several passengers requiring emergency assistance. The exact circumstances leading to the collision were not immediately established.
The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety in Egypt. Traffic accidents remain a serious public safety problem, with high-speed roads, heavy vehicles and crowded transport services contributing to dangerous conditions. Minibuses are widely used by commuters because they offer relatively affordable transport between residential areas and workplaces.
Road safety experts have repeatedly highlighted the importance of vehicle maintenance, responsible driving and effective enforcement of traffic regulations. Poor vehicle conditions and dangerous driving practices can increase the risk of severe collisions, particularly when smaller passenger vehicles share busy roads with heavy trucks.
Egypt has invested in expanding and improving its road network, including new highways and major transport projects. However, infrastructure improvements alone cannot prevent accidents without stronger safety practices and consistent enforcement.
Investigators are expected to examine the movement of both vehicles and determine whether speed, mechanical problems or other factors contributed to the collision. For families affected by the accident, the immediate priority remains medical care for survivors and confirmation of the condition of injured relatives. The tragedy has renewed calls for stronger protection for passengers using Egypt’s public and shared transport systems.
