Patrick Bamford joins Sheffield United months after leading chant mocking Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed for Sheffield United, just seven months after leading abusive chants about the club’s manager Chris Wilder during Leeds United’s promotion celebrations.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds in August, has joined the Championship side on a short-term deal until January. Despite their past feud, Wilder has welcomed Bamford as he looks to boost the league’s lowest-scoring attack.

The pair’s history dates back to 2019, when Wilder called Bamford “a muppet” during a heated promotion race. But the tension appears resolved — Bamford and Leeds manager Daniel Farke both called Wilder to apologise after the viral chant earlier this year.

Wilder confirmed there were “no issues” between them, saying: “We had a good conversation. I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.”

Bamford, who earned one England cap, made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but has battled injuries in recent years.
