Egypt is strengthening its role as a regional business and investment hub as Gulf firms and global investors look for new places to expand. The country is drawing attention not only as a large market but also as a base for digital services, regional work and back office operations.

Mohamed Awaad, Egypt Corporate Agent at Ziada DC in the UAE, said investor interest in Egypt is changing. Companies are now looking at the country for long term business needs. They are also exploring Egypt as a base for services that can support markets across the region.

Gulf investment is one of the main signs of this growing interest. Major urban and economic projects are attracting firms that expect demand to grow in the years ahead. Areas around East Cairo are among the locations drawing attention as new roads, buildings and other projects expand.

Awaad said Egypt has strong potential in the back office sector. This includes software work, marketing services and call centres. The country has a large pool of skilled workers. Many Egyptian professionals also speak foreign languages, which can help firms serve customers in other markets.

Operating costs are another factor. Companies can often run teams in Egypt at lower costs than in some other regional markets. Lower infrastructure and utility costs can also help businesses control spending.

The rise of remote work has added to this advantage. Gulf and international companies can hire developers and other skilled workers in Egypt while keeping their teams connected to operations in other countries. In some cases, firms can also benefit from payroll costs in Egyptian pounds.

Call centre services are another growing area. Companies that serve customers in Saudi Arabia and the UAE can manage parts of their customer service work from Egypt. They can use international phone numbers while relying on Egypt’s workforce and lower operating costs.

Government support is also playing a role. National plans aimed at growing the outsourcing sector are designed to attract more international firms. These plans could also create more jobs for young Egyptians and help develop new skills.

Artificial intelligence is another part of Egypt’s technology plans. National programmes are working to improve digital skills and expand knowledge of AI among people of different age groups. These efforts could help build a stronger technology workforce over time.

Data centres are also becoming an area of interest. Egypt has a useful geographic position between major markets in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Its telecommunications network and growing digital infrastructure could support more investment in data storage and related services.

Awaad also sees scope for large smart industrial and technology zones. Such areas could bring data centres, technology firms and service companies together. Major transport routes could make these zones easier to connect with cities and other markets.

Changes in global business patterns may also benefit Egypt. Geopolitical events in 2026 have pushed some international firms to review where they place their operations and investments. Companies are looking for ways to reduce risk and create more flexible supply and service networks.

Egypt has several factors that could support this shift. These include its large workforce, central location and growing infrastructure. Its position between Africa, Europe and the Gulf also gives companies access to several major markets.

Government reforms and investment incentives may provide another boost. Steps aimed at attracting foreign direct investment could help bring more companies into technology, administration and service based activities.

Still, continued investment will be important. Egypt will need stronger telecom networks, better infrastructure and more modern urban areas to support large technology operations.

If these efforts continue, Egypt could expand its role in the regional digital economy. Its workforce, costs, location and growing technology base give the country a strong platform for future growth.

The Egypt digital services hub could become an important part of that growth. More global and Gulf firms may use the country not only to sell products but also to build teams, manage services and support operations across the region.
