Egypt has launched a new artificial intelligence platform built to understand Egyptian Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic. The platform, called BelMasry, is being offered free to the public during its pilot launch.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced the platform as part of Egypt’s wider push to build local AI tools. It was developed by the Applied Innovation Center within the ministry.

BelMasry is designed to deal with a problem that many AI systems face. Egyptian Arabic can differ greatly from formal Arabic. Local words, accents and expressions can also make speech harder for digital systems to understand.

The new platform uses three main AI systems. The first turns spoken Arabic into written text. It supports Egyptian Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic. It can also separate different speakers and reduce background noise.

The second system is built for translation. It can translate between Arabic and 50 foreign languages. This could help users who need to move between Egyptian Arabic, formal Arabic and other languages.

The third system turns written words into speech. It can create spoken Arabic from text in both Egyptian Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic. The technology could support learning tools, media work and digital services.

The ministry says BelMasry was built with Egyptian Arabic data. This is important because many global AI systems are trained mainly on wider forms of Arabic. Local speech can be more difficult for such systems to process.

Egypt wants the new platform to support digital inclusion. It is available free to individuals, institutions and developers. This means students, businesses and software teams can test the tools without paying a basic access fee.

The launch is also linked to Egypt’s national AI strategy. The country has been working to expand its role in artificial intelligence and digital services. Local language tools are part of that wider effort.

BelMasry also has a focus on digital sovereignty. The platform was developed by Egyptian experts through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The aim is to create AI systems that can better serve local needs while giving Egypt greater control over its own technology.

The speech tools may have practical uses in many areas. A person could use speech recognition to turn a recording into text. A developer could use language tools in a digital service. A learning platform could use speech generation to create spoken lessons.

The translation system may also help users communicate with people in other countries. Its support for 50 foreign languages gives the platform a wider role than a tool built only for Egyptian Arabic.

The launch comes as AI use grows across Egypt and the wider region. Governments, schools and businesses are looking for ways to use AI in daily services. Language remains one of the key areas where local systems can make a difference.

For Egypt, BelMasry is more than a language tool. It is part of a larger effort to develop national AI skills and products. The platform also reflects a push to make technology work better with Egyptian culture and speech.

The pilot launch will give users and developers a chance to test the system. Their experience can help shape future updates and improvements.

Egypt’s new platform is therefore entering a fast moving AI market. Its focus on Egyptian Arabic gives it a clear local purpose. If the system performs well, it could become useful in education, business, media and public services.

For now, BelMasry is available free of charge. Its launch gives Egyptians a new local option for speech, translation and voice technology while supporting the country’s wider plans for artificial intelligence.
