Egypt has said it is ready to provide necessary support to Saudi Arabia as attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement raise concerns about regional security. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called for parliamentary backing for possible action if the Saudi government formally requests help. The announcement highlights the close relationship between the two countries at a time of growing tension around the Red Sea and the Arabian Peninsula.

The latest concerns follow reported Houthi attacks targeting Saudi sites, including Riyadh’s international airport and the state oil company Saudi Aramco. Such attacks can threaten civilians, transport links and important economic infrastructure. They also raise fears that a conflict centred on Yemen could spread and draw more countries into direct involvement.

Egypt’s leadership has stressed that any response would be coordinated with Saudi Arabia. Officials have framed the position as support for a partner’s security rather than a desire to begin a new conflict. Parliamentary approval would be an important part of the process if military action were formally requested.

The two countries have strong strategic and economic ties. Saudi Arabia has provided substantial financial support to Egypt in the past, while both governments have an interest in protecting shipping routes and stability across the region. The Red Sea is important for global trade, and prolonged insecurity can increase risks for commercial vessels and raise transport costs.

Egypt joined the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen in 2015 but played a more limited combat role than some other members. Its latest statement does not confirm that Egyptian forces will be deployed. Any decision would depend on developments, a formal request and the legal and political steps required in Egypt.

The announcement comes as regional governments face pressure to prevent further escalation. A wider conflict could affect energy markets, trade routes and civilian life across several countries. Egypt’s position signals solidarity with Saudi Arabia, but the practical meaning of the offer will depend on what happens next and whether Riyadh seeks direct assistance.
