Ruben Amorim criticised his Manchester United side for becoming complacent after they surrendered control in a 3-3 draw with Tottenham, despite leading for much of the game.
United looked on course for victory after Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half goal put them ahead, but Mathys Tel and Richarlison turned the match around before Matthijs de Ligt salvaged a point with a dramatic 96th-minute header.
Amorim, whose team are now five games unbeaten, warned that the result masked lingering issues. “We have a lot of problems — we’re just at the beginning,” he said. “We were comfortable in the game, but we should have been more aggressive. The three points were there, the space was there, but we felt too comfortable. One play can change everything, and that’s what happened.”
There was also concern for Benjamin Šeško, who appeared to suffer a knee injury after coming on. “We think he has a problem, but let’s see,” Amorim added.
Tottenham boss Thomas Frank defended his substitutions after some fans jeered when he replaced Xavi Simons with Tel — who went on to equalise minutes later. “Sometimes you’re lucky,” Frank admitted. “But every decision I make is to try to win the game, and Tel did well — a great moment.”
Despite Spurs’ continued struggle for a home win — their last was on 16 August against Burnley — Frank insisted the performance showed progress: “We turned it around and stayed in the game. So close to winning it. Overall, a good performance against a Manchester United team that’s in flow.”
