Egypt climate startups are set to receive new support following a partnership between Schneider Electric and GIZ Egypt aimed at accelerating clean technology innovation. The agreement is designed to strengthen the country’s startup ecosystem by helping climate focused companies develop and scale sustainable solutions.
Schneider Electric has signed a cooperation agreement with GIZ in Egypt under the Private Sector Innovation Project. The initiative will support the implementation of the ClimAccelerator programme, which focuses on helping early stage climate technology startups grow in the Egyptian market.
The programme will be operated locally through the Athar Accelerator in partnership with Climate KIC, a European climate innovation network. It aims to support five selected climate tech startups by offering training, technical assistance, and milestone based funding to help scale their solutions.
As part of the collaboration, Schneider Electric will act as the sustainability and technology partner for the programme. The company will provide mentorship and technical guidance to participating startups, focusing on energy management, digital tools, and sustainability solutions aligned with its global expertise.
The partnership reflects growing efforts to support climate innovation in Egypt, where demand for clean energy solutions and sustainable development is increasing. Officials say the initiative will help startups contribute to national environmental goals and broader economic transformation.
Schneider Electric said the collaboration supports its long term strategy of promoting electrification, automation, and digitalisation across industries. The company emphasized that supporting startups is essential for building a resilient and energy efficient economy.
A senior representative from Schneider Electric in Africa said empowering climate technology startups is a key step in addressing environmental challenges. She added that collaboration between private companies, international institutions, and entrepreneurs is essential to speed up the transition to sustainable energy systems.
The GIZ Egypt Private Sector Innovation Project will oversee implementation of the ClimAccelerator programme. It will ensure that startups receive technical training, climate impact assessment tools, and structured financial support based on development milestones.
GIZ officials said the partnership creates a collaborative environment where startups and large companies can work together. This approach is intended to help scale innovative solutions more effectively and strengthen Egypt’s climate innovation ecosystem.
The programme is also aligned with Egypt Vision 2030, which focuses on building a green economy and improving resource efficiency. Authorities aim to encourage the adoption of low emission technologies across multiple sectors, including energy, transport, and urban development.
Experts say Egypt’s startup ecosystem has been expanding in recent years, particularly in fintech, energy, and climate technology. However, access to funding and technical expertise remains a challenge for early stage companies.
Initiatives like ClimAccelerator are expected to bridge this gap by connecting entrepreneurs with global industry players and development organisations. This support can help startups move from early concepts to scalable business models.
The partnership also highlights the increasing role of corporate involvement in climate innovation. Companies like Schneider Electric are expanding beyond traditional business operations to support sustainable development projects in emerging markets.
Officials involved in the programme say the focus on mentorship and technical training will help improve the quality and impact of climate solutions developed in Egypt. The goal is to create startups that can compete regionally and globally in the clean technology sector.
As climate challenges continue to grow worldwide, partnerships between governments, development agencies, and private companies are becoming more important. The new agreement is seen as a step toward building stronger cooperation and accelerating the transition to a low carbon economy in Egypt.
