Seeking Another Summit with North Korea
Donald Trump has expressed interest in meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un once more, potentially later this year. At a White House meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, Trump described his past encounters with Kim as productive and said he hopes to restart direct negotiations, despite previous talks failing to produce a lasting agreement on North Korea’s nuclear program.

Proposal for U.S. Ownership of Military Sites
Trump suggested that the United States could take full ownership of the land hosting American military installations in South Korea. Citing the significant investment made by the U.S., he questioned the need for ongoing lease agreements. The proposal underscores Trump’s focus on strengthening both strategic influence and financial returns for American forces abroad.

South Korea Encourages Diplomatic Engagement Amid Rising Tensions
President Lee Jae Myung urged renewed dialogue with Kim, emphasizing the importance of achieving peaceful denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula. In a lighter exchange, Lee joked about constructing a “Trump Tower” in North Korea and playing golf there. The discussions come as North Korea continues to expand its nuclear and military programs, while South Korea navigates political transitions following the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol. Analysts note that North Korea’s recent actions, shaped by global conflicts, make diplomacy increasingly delicate.
