Sky has placed 900 UK roles at risk as it reshapes its business to compete with US streaming services. About 600 roles are expected to be cut, with 300 redeployed, affecting technology, product, and corporate teams.
The move follows launches of Sky Glass and the budget-friendly Sky Glass Air, and comes as the broadcaster moves away from traditional satellite pay-TV. Since early 2023, Sky has cut nearly 3,500 jobs, bringing its UK workforce back to around 23,000, similar to 2018 levels when Comcast acquired the company.
More than 90% of new subscriptions now come from internet-based products like Sky Glass and Sky Stream. A recent deal with Warner Bros Discovery will make HBO Max available via Sky, ending its exclusive broadcast rights to HBO content.
Sky said the changes aim to focus on digital-first services, improved content, and enhanced product performance to strengthen its market position.
