Manchester City delivered a dominant 3-0 derby victory over Manchester United at the Etihad, strengthening their title credentials and moving four points clear at the top of the Women’s Super League.
Goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp sealed the win during a blistering first-half spell in which City scored three times in 21 minutes. Andrée Jeglertz’s side were dynamic, controlled and ruthless, dismantling a United defence that had conceded only six league goals all season.
United, meanwhile, looked fatigued after their historic midweek Champions League win over PSG. The loss marks their first back-to-back WSL defeats since May 2024 and leaves them seven points behind City.
Marc Skinner admitted his side handed City their goals but insisted the title race isn’t over. He also stressed the need for squad reinforcements in the January window, with United struggling to balance domestic and European demands.
City, refreshed and injury-boosted, made only one change with Hemp returning to the starting XI—and she was electric down the left. United managed moments of threat but failed to register a shot on target, while City’s fluidity and control repeatedly stretched the visitors.
After City’s early pressure, Shaw headed across goal from a corner for Knaak’s opener. She then bundled in the second before Hemp drilled home a superb third after a turnover.
The hosts could have added more but comfortably saw out the match to claim a statement victory. With wins over both Arsenal and United already this season, City look firmly established as major title contenders after nine games.
