    Diplomatic Strains Deepen
China has cautioned its citizens against traveling or studying in Japan, escalating tensions following Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s remarks on Japan’s potential response to a Taiwan scenario. In light of the advisory, Tokyo is planning to send a senior envoy to Beijing to attempt to de-escalate the diplomatic friction.

Tourism and Retail Stocks Take a Hit
The warning triggered sharp losses in Japanese equities, with companies heavily reliant on Chinese visitors among the hardest hit. Retailers, department stores, and tourism-related businesses saw significant declines as investors reacted to the prospect of reduced tourist spending and lower foot traffic in major shopping and leisure areas.

Economic Dependence on Chinese Visitors Highlighted
The market reaction underscores Japan’s reliance on Chinese travelers as a key driver for consumer-oriented sectors. Analysts warn that if the downturn in tourism persists, it could have wider economic repercussions. Businesses are closely watching diplomatic developments for signs of stabilization that might help restore visitor flows and economic confidence.
