Afghanistan announced on Sunday that its forces killed 58 Pakistani soldiers during overnight clashes along the border.
Officials said the fighting erupted after repeated Pakistani violations of Afghan territory and airspace.
Earlier in the week, Afghan leaders accused Pakistan of bombing Kabul and a market in eastern Afghanistan.
Pakistan did not accept responsibility for the attacks or comment on the latest claims.
Taliban Forces Capture Pakistani Outposts
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Afghan troops seized 25 Pakistani army posts and wounded 30 soldiers.
He told reporters that Afghan forces now control all borders and have prevented most illegal activities.
Afghanistan’s Defence Ministry confirmed its troops carried out “retaliatory and successful operations” overnight.
Officials warned Pakistan against future incursions and vowed to defend Afghanistan’s borders with full force.
The ministry said Afghan soldiers remain ready to deliver a “powerful response” to any future violations.
In previous incidents, Pakistan targeted Afghan regions it accused of sheltering militants, often in remote mountain areas.
Rising Regional Tensions and Blame
Pakistan accuses Kabul of sheltering Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan militants responsible for deadly attacks inside its borders.
Afghanistan denies these claims, insisting it forbids any group from using its land against other nations.
Pakistan also blames India for backing armed groups, though it has offered no concrete proof.
The escalating border violence threatens to destabilize the region, already tense after clashes over Kashmir earlier this year.
Before Afghanistan released its death toll, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised his army’s “strong response.”
Pakistani forces claimed they destroyed several Afghan outposts and shared videos showing the aftermath.
Pakistan’s military reported killing more than 200 “Taliban and affiliated militants” in the recent battles.
Security officials said Afghan troops opened fire across multiple locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, sparking the deadly confrontation.
