Senior Israeli military officials have held meetings with Egyptian military leaders in Cairo as both countries continue discussions on regional security and the future of Gaza, according to Israeli media reports.

The reported meetings took place over two days in the Egyptian capital and were described as part of ongoing strategic consultations between Israel and Egypt.

According to the reports, senior military officials from both countries discussed a range of regional issues and explored ways to continue security cooperation.

The talks come as international efforts continue to shape the next stage of developments in the Gaza Strip following months of conflict.

Reports said the discussions included topics linked to a United States-backed post-war framework for Gaza. Negotiators are continuing talks on future governance, security arrangements, and the role of Hamas in the territory.

One of the main issues under discussion is the future of Hamas and whether the group’s military capabilities should be dismantled as part of any long-term agreement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly stated that reconstruction in Gaza cannot begin unless Hamas is disarmed and removed from power.

Israel has maintained that lasting security depends on preventing Hamas from rebuilding its military infrastructure.

According to the Israeli media report, security officials currently believe Egypt’s mediation efforts have become more effective than those of Qatar or Türkiye during the latest phase of negotiations.

The report also cited unnamed sources who claimed that Egyptian mediators had discussed the possibility of taking custody of Hamas weapons under a future agreement.

However, neither the Egyptian government nor the Egyptian Armed Forces has publicly confirmed that such a proposal has been made.

Hamas has also not confirmed the reported claim.

The meetings took place while negotiations over a broader ceasefire and long-term arrangements for Gaza continue.

Hamas has rejected recent Israeli claims that it is quickly rebuilding its military strength.

In a statement released last Sunday, the group said the accusations were intended to justify renewed military operations despite the existing ceasefire.

Israeli officials, meanwhile, continue to argue that preventing Hamas from restoring its military capabilities remains a key security objective.

Egypt has played an important role as a mediator in previous conflicts between Israel and Hamas. Along with other international partners, Cairo has frequently helped facilitate ceasefire negotiations, prisoner exchanges, and humanitarian discussions.

Its geographic location and long-standing diplomatic ties with both Israel and Palestinian representatives have made Egypt a central participant in regional mediation efforts.

The latest reported meetings highlight the continued security coordination between Israel and Egypt as both countries monitor developments in Gaza and the wider Middle East.

Neither the Egyptian government nor the Israeli military has released an official statement detailing the discussions held in Cairo.

Officials have also not announced whether additional meetings are planned.

Diplomatic efforts involving regional and international partners continue as negotiators work toward a longer-term agreement that could address security concerns, humanitarian needs, and future governance in Gaza.

While many details remain under discussion, the reported talks reflect ongoing efforts by regional leaders to find a path toward greater stability following months of conflict.

As negotiations continue, attention remains focused on ceasefire arrangements, reconstruction planning, and the future political and security structure of the Gaza Strip.
